Shroom and Gloom FAQ

All Questions

Is it called Shroom and Gloom or Shroom and Bloom?

Shroom and Gloom. "Shroom and Bloom" is a common mistyping — the Steam page, the itch.io prototype and every Team Lazerbeam dev log use Gloom, which is also the name of the realm you are travelling towards.

Is this the same thing as the Gloom-shroom from Plants vs. Zombies?

No. Gloom-shroom is an upgraded plant in Plants vs. Zombies; Shroom and Gloom is a first-person roguelike deckbuilder by Team Lazerbeam, published by Devolver Digital. The two share nothing but a word order.

When does Shroom and Gloom come out?

September 10, 2026, on Steam Early Access for Windows and macOS. The date was announced in the August 22 dev log and confirmed in Devolver Digital's launch trailer.

Is Shroom and Gloom free?

The demo is free and stays on Steam; the Early Access game is paid. Team Lazerbeam and Devolver have not published the Early Access price yet, so anyone quoting a number is guessing.

How long is the Shroom and Gloom demo?

The demo covers 26 handcrafted tunnels and ends at The Gloom. A single successful run is short — the current speedrun record on speedrun.com is 16 minutes 5 seconds — but a first attempt normally takes a few runs because dying restarts the descent.

Can I play Shroom and Gloom on PS5, Xbox, Switch or mobile?

No console or mobile version has been announced — see the platforms page for the full status list, including controller support and multiplayer.

Where can I play the original Shroom and Gloom prototype?

The September 2024 prototype is still on itch.io as a free Windows and macOS download from Team Lazerbeam, rated 4.8 out of 5 from 324 ratings. It predates the Steam demo and plays differently — exploration was reworked in June 2026.

Does Shroom and Gloom have a Discord?

Yes. The Steam store page lists the Team Lazerbeam Discord as the official support channel; it is where the developers take bug reports and post development snapshots. The links page collects every official channel.

Is there a Shroom and Gloom subreddit?

Yes — r/ShroomAndGloom, run alongside the developers' other channels. It is where the Early Access announcement was posted, and it currently ranks first in Google for the game's guide queries.

Does Shroom and Gloom have achievements?

Yes. Asked directly on the Steam forum, Team Lazerbeam answered: "Yes, there will be achievements, even in Early Access", including hidden ones. The Steam page already lists Steam Achievements as a feature.

Can you save and quit in the middle of a run?

Not in the demo. A player raised it on the Steam forum and the developers replied that save and quit is "obviously a given for the full game" and that they had not managed to implement it in the demo yet.

What languages will Shroom and Gloom support?

English at minimum, with Simplified Chinese confirmed as the first added localisation (June 2026 dev log). After heavy demand on the forums the developers named Russian as one of the languages they will prioritise. No full language list has been published.

Who made Shroom and Gloom?

Team Lazerbeam, a South African studio whose earlier games include Teenage Blob and Wrestling With Emotions. Devolver Digital publishes it after picking the game up from the 2024 prototype.
